Bernice S. Saxon, attorney/shareholder at Saxon Gilmore, attended the retirement reception for Joyours “Pete” Gamble at the Sunset Harbour Yacht Club & Conference Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. Gamble had served as the executive director of the Daytona Beach Housing Authority for the last 13 years, and Saxon Gilmore has had the pleasure of working with him on a number of development projects. The reception was well attended and as part of the program, a number of the attendees including members of the Housing Authority Board, HUD representatives, various community leaders, and Congressman John Mica praised Mr. Gamble’s accomplishments as a leader in developing affordable housing in Daytona Beach.

John B. Gibbons, attorney/shareholder at Saxon Gilmore, attended the 38th Annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast held at the Doubletree Hotel. Attendees included members of “Freedom Riders”. Fifty years ago, this group of people travelled by bus and train through the nation’s southern states to integrate public spaces. Their journey helped to change America. The 2011 Human Rights Awards went to Antonella (Nella) Makdessi (Youth Leadership Award), Dr. Raymond Arsenault, Lyle Flagg, Paula Allen (Human Rights Award), Christy Suite (Human Rights Award and Eddie Mitchell Memorial Award), Florida State Senator Arthenia Joyner (Hank Warren Memorial Award), The Honorable Sam Gibbons (former US Representative), Alfredo Moreno, The Honorable E. J. Salcines (retired Appellate Court Judge, former Federal/State Prosecutor) received the Human Rights Hall of Fame award.

On December 7, 2011, Tabitha S. Fish, attorney at Saxon Gilmore, attended the International Trade Networking Reception held at the Wyndham Tampa Westshore Hotel. The reception was held to connect exporters with each other in an effort to expand trade in Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida. The Florida District Export Council (FDEC) members have been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce as advisors and share their international business experience with local exporters.

Rhonda E. Stringer, attorney/partner at Saxon Gilmore, attended the Grand Opening for Janie's Garden Phase II hosted by the Sarasota Housing Authority and its development partner, Michaels Development Company. The Demolition Ceremony for the Mediterranean Apartments immediately followed. Janie's Garden Phase II is a $14 million redevelopment project featuring 68 affordable apartments and 10,500 square feet of retail space in Sarasota's historic Newtown neighborhood.

Sarah M. Hammett, Richard N. Asfar and Julie M. Baumgartner, associates/attorneys at Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A. attended the November HCBA membership luncheon. Ms. Hammett led the Make a Difference Day as chair of the HCBA's Community Services Committee where they filled 48 elderly veterans' wish lists and donated wish list items to the veterans.
Ms. Hammett also organized the Alpha Angels program with Alpha House in connection with the HCBA. Alpha House's mission is to empower pregnant and parenting women in crisis to realize their ability to break the cycles of poverty and abuse and create promising lives. Alpha House provides a maternity-based comprehensive residential program for up to 23 pregnant women and foster care teens and a transitional housing program for 16 adult women. October 28-30, 2011
Paul M. Quin, attorney/partner at Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A. was a guest panelist/presenter at The Sticks 'n' Skins - The Sessions event recently held at the New York City Collective Schools on October 28, 2011. He has spent many years as a professional drummer and remains active in the music industry. Mr. Quin represents musicians, and particularly drummers, in a number of civil, legal arenas.
The idea for the event came from Jules Follett, author/photographer of Sticks 'n' Skins, who is familiar with the business complexities that musicians experience. The purpose was to hold an event where artists can learn more about the business side Paul also attended a Sticks 'n' Skins event at the Cutting Room in New York City on October 30, 2011 to honor those drummers who are currently over 80 years old and who contributed to the legacy of American music.
Present at the event to be honored were Joe Porcaro, Hal Blaine, Bobby Morris and Vic Firth. Also honored, but unable to attend, were Ed Shaughnessy, Roy Haynes, and several others. Buddy Rich, Earl Palmer, Joe Morello and others were honored posthumously. At the event, Paul introduced Joe Porcaro to the attendees who included many luminaries from the drumming world, including John DeChristopher of Zildjian, Billy Amendola of Modern Drummer, Rick Drumm of D'Addario & Company, Inc., Lenny White, Steve Smith, Chris Parker, Daniel Glass, Joe Bergamini, Bobby Rondinelli, Will Calhoun and many others. Ricardo L. Gilmore, senior partner and co-founder of Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A., recently attended the NAHRO (10/22-10/25) and HDLI Conference( 10/24) in St. Louis. He was a speaker at the HDLI conference on the subject "Must-Have Insurance Policy Coverages: Negotiating for the PHA." Mr. Gilmore specializes in the areas of business and corporate law, public finance, and commercial litigation. He serves as special counsel to housing authorities in Florida and other states relative to affordable housing development matters, which involve a multiplicity of legal issues unique to housing authorities as well as applicable to governmental agencies and/or corporate entities. He has developed a specialty in public housing law and has been involved in two extensive litigation matters appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court that established nationwide precedents. Bernice S. Saxon, managing partner and co-founder, and Jozette V. Chack-On, a partner, of Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A., attended the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Judge Isaac Anderson, Jr. Administrative Offices and HOPE VI Renaissance Preserve Project on October 18, 2011. The ceremony was held by the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers, Florida (HACFM). In October 2005, the HACFM was awarded a $20 million HUD HOPE VI revitalization grant to transform an obsolete public housing project into the new Renaissance Preserve development. The redevelopment provides high quality, affordable housing for people in the community. Ms. Saxon and Ms. Chack-On, as well as other members of the firm, are happy to be a part of this success story by continuing to provide legal services in bringing the project to completion.
Marcus D. Goodson, Executive Director of HACFM, gave the opening remarks, followed by Pastor James A. Bing, for the Invocation/Blessing of the Community. Darlene Mitchell sang the National Anthem. Special guests included Jose Cintron, Director U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Councilwoman Teresa Watkins Brown, Rick Higgins, President of Norstar Development U.S.A., Joseph P. D'Alessandro, HACFM Chairman, Audrea Anderson and Justin Anderson. The Administrative Offices building is named in honor of Judge Isaac Anderson, Jr., who was a native of Fort Myers. Judge Anderson was a man of strong character, and had a sincere desire to help people. He served as Director of Community Affairs for Fort Myers and later as Lee County's lobbyist for state and federal funds. He opened his law office in Fort Myers to practice civil and criminal defense, and later was elected as a judge to the Circuit Court where he spent the remainder of his career. Judge Anderson was strongly committed to community service. He worked for the Dunbar Coalition and the Dunbar Improvement Association, whose mission is to provide affordable housing for the elderly and handicapped. The Tampa General Hospital Foundation's Annual Dinner was held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Palma Ceia Golf & Mary Bosy received the 2011 Madeleine P. Gibbons Humanitarian Award for her unmatched commitment and dedication to the hospital. Mary joined the Peace Corp at the age of 71 and taught teachers in remote countries. Later, she became a volunteer at Tampa General Hospital. The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented by Mrs. Gibbons' son, John B. Gibbons, who is an attorney/shareholder at Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A..

She obtained Industrial Engineering and Industrial Management degrees from Purdue University, where she graduated early, with honors. During law school, Ms. Hammett received a book award for the highest grade in her Law and Economics Seminar, and actively participated in ATLA Trial Competitions. Ms. Hammett has gained experience interning with the Attorney General's Office and the Federal Public Defender's Office in addition to clerking at several private law firms.
