John B. Gibbons, attorney/shareholder at Saxon Gilmore, attended the 38th Annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast held at the Doubletree Hotel. Attendees included members of “Freedom Riders”. Fifty years ago, this group of people travelled by bus and train through the nation’s southern states to integrate public spaces. Their journey helped to change America. The 2011 Human Rights Awards went to Antonella (Nella) Makdessi (Youth Leadership Award), Dr. Raymond Arsenault, Lyle Flagg, Paula Allen (Human Rights Award), Christy Suite (Human Rights Award and Eddie Mitchell Memorial Award), Florida State Senator Arthenia Joyner (Hank Warren Memorial Award), The Honorable Sam Gibbons (former US Representative), Alfredo Moreno, The Honorable E. J. Salcines (retired Appellate Court Judge, former Federal/State Prosecutor) received the Human Rights Hall of Fame award.
